The linked story is from Peter O’Dowd, a journalist for whom I have huge respect — not alone because he listens when I talk about bug’s-eye-view real estate.

In Houston for the past 30 years I have looked for pipe, flatbeds with drill pipe. When you see the dirty pipe in motion, it means the pipe is in transit from a wellhead to a rework machine shop for maintenance before its next assignment. It is a handy snapshot.

In New Jersey, they are doing a lot of basic road work and some bridges. Our infrastruture is pretty rough.
When you see alot of dump trucks on the road things are going.

In Bend OR we don’t need to look for a truss,pipe, or dump truck, it’s hard not to drive a few blocks without seeing a new home being built (and usually pending sale already. We didn’t even see any real signs, it just happened overnight. It’s astonishing how quick our market turned around.

Here it is earth moving equipment. I live in an area that is still being built out, and stopped in the middle when the economy took a turn. When I see grading equipment, I know more new homes are going in.
