Brian, Sean, into the breech I go. I had wanted to stay out of Politics since the heartbreak of the campaign last year (organizational dysfunction at the highest level). I wanted to steer clear, but I got sucked in.
It’s a bad idea to think about politics because then instead of pounding the damn phones, you get sucked into this stuff.
This took a half hour for me, end to end. Screen flow rocks. Call me sometime if you want one that tells Your story. Given more time, they turn out better, but speed is what kills. The fast DO eat the slow.
This video was made with 3 things:
Screenflow.
Garage Band (for the U2 Loop).
8.5 x 11″ sheet of paper to tell the story.
This was more of a proof of concept–telling a story in 30 minutes or so. I downloaded and quickly edited youtube video supporting what story I was going to tell (namely that Sarah Palin could be president, and that Sarah Palin needn’t be in my crotch).
This was done rapidly–I’m aware that there are transition goofs and I don’t plan to fix them. They are my fault, not Screenflow’s. I was trying to do something in a timed fashion,
But, I used to have to splice Screenflow in with keynote, and I will still likely use keynote, but not as much with the new version of Screenflow.
Screenflow + live type does everything that you’d want from a NLE with the exception of chroma key. I do wish that Keynote had some sort of output-to-alpha type function, or transparent backgrounds.
Speed is what matters. If I was (and thank God I had the sense to quit) still a loan officer, you damn well better believe I’d do a screenflow talking head each and every day with rates and other stuff. You could be end-to-end in 10 minutes, and your arrows would quickly block out the sun.
I’ll indulge myself over the weekend with another video, and demonstration of A/B testing with Google Website Optimizer at a new little thing Bawld Guy and I are doing.

I guess I didn’t understand the “Palin controlling your crotch” argument, Chris.

Brian-
Each side of the equation wants to expand power while in office, not understanding that the other side is gonna win.
So, if the Left wants to nationalize medicine, they dnn’t ponder what it means when the Right takes over. So, if you don’t want Sarah Palin to have the levers of a national health apparatus, don’t vote for it. If you don’t want Hilary Clinton in charge of wiretaping, don’t vote for it.
Nobody thinks that way though, and I can’t figure out why.

If you’re not aware of how putatively “good” laws are abused by both parties, you’re not paying attention. The point of all laws is to increase the power of the state, gradually enslaving formerly free people.
Witness a “harmless” law in action: Supreme Court to weigh depictions of animal cruelty.

Sean Purcell says:
Chris,
I am right with you on this. For quite a while now I’ve seen little difference in the two major parties. I believe this came to a head with Obama vs. McCain: a contest to see who could promise to give away the most. I know yours is supposed to be a post about video, but allow me to ask your opinion on something I haven’t figured out yet: do the majority of voters supporting one candidate over another believe that the government has some sort of independent wealth that they can “give away,” or do they understand it’s all redistribution and choose to vote for the liar telling them the lies they most want to hear?
On a more salient point: love the video. I am trying to move our marketing efforts over to a primarily video based vehicle. I think that not only is video the next big step that works (as opposed to, oh… say Twitter), but most of the competition is 2-3 years away and we can own this thing. I’m anxious to see anything and everything else you put up on video production.

How did you import the music loop into screen flow? The only option I see is to allow you to record audio into the microphone as you do the screen capture.
I have pre-recorded audio in an mp3, and I’d like to create a video with screen flow. I don’t see an option to let me create the video and import existing audio.

The loop was made in Gargage Band, exported to a 5 minute MP3. If you want, you can just locate it in the finder, and drag it to the time line, or drag it to the media section.
Dead simple, elegant and fun.

Can you recommend a a similar program for the PC? I’ve used the free Jing Project and seen (but not used) Camtasia.

I will stay away from the politics of the video and just say that the quality of the video was quite good, and I think this could be useful for real estate agents.
