This came in for a trackback on my NAR tax-credit video post:
http://hottopics.blogs.realtor.org/2009/09/08/ my-nar-tax-credit-video-“tell-the-natio/
The link resolves to an https address — in other words, a secret inner-sanctum blog. They won’t stand up for themselves in the clean, clear light of day, but they’ll piss and moan to each other in private.
It’s not that they’re gutless, mind you — or not merely gutless. So much the worse, they know they’re wrong — and they still won’t do the right thing.
How horrifying to spend your whole life thinking you’re one of the good guys only to discover that you are every bit as corrupt as Charlie Rangel, immersed snout-deep in the corporate welfare trough, turning a million mostly-innocent entrepreneurs into cheerleaders and lobbyists for even more legislative piggishness, turning three hundred million innocent Americans into cannibal’s fodder for your million-vampire-feast.
Who killed liberty in America, the last best hope for freedom on this Earth?
Was it Alexander Hamilton and the Whig/Federalist/Republican party, the original champions of corporate welfare?
Was it Andrew Jackson and the Democratic party, who wanted freedom for everyone — so long as you’re not black, brown, red or yellow? Or was it Lyndon Johnson and the modern Democratic party, who want freedom for everyone — provided you’re not an American?
Or was it the National Association of Realtors, who helped to turn a nation of hard-working, hard-charging, fiercely independent people into a gaggle of sniveling beggars, who can no longer even imagine paying their own way in life, who spend all their time concocting new ways to despoil their neighbors.
With every passing day, we are that much closer to being a nation of vampires, and it was the National Association of Blood-Sucking Vampires who first taught us to attempt to live by plunder instead of production.
But as much as I despise what they have done, still I feel for them as people. So I’ll offer up this much as a salve for the scabs they can’t stop themselves from picking at:
Redemption is egoism in action.
When you discover you have behaved badly, either willfully or inadvertently, there are three things you must do:
1. Admit your error explicitly to everyone affected by it.
2. Correct the damage you have caused, as much as is possible.
3. Resolve never to make that error — or anything like it — ever again.
If you try to quietly paper over your past without admitting what you have done, you are trying to hide your evil from yourself. Your unwillingness to commit to the good is a de facto commitment to future evil.
In most cases, you will not be able to undo all the damage you have done. The burden of guilt you will bear for the remainder is your just penance. You cannot escape it, but you can learn to focus on all the good you are doing now — assuming you are actually doing good.
We all make mistakes — and only one of us was Socrates. But if your last disastrous crime was simply the prelude to your next disastrous crime, you have learned nothing from your life and the constant state of misery inside your mind is wholly deserved.
So that’s my answer to the Secret Pissing and Moaning Society of the National Association of Blood-Sucking Vampires: Redemption is egoism in action:
1. Admit that every legislative initiative of the NAR has been devised to expropriate American consumers to the benefit of Realtors and brokers. Admit that the National Association of Realtors has been nothing but a blood-sucking vampire latched onto the neck of the American economy since its inception.
2. Seek the repeal of all of those laws still on the books, and, simultaneously and going forward, educate Americans about the means, methods and perils of Rotarian Socialism, crony-“capitalism” and corporate welfare. Become a steadfast champion of the inalienable right to private property. Help Americans understand that the first and best defense of their liberty is not free speech, a free press or free access to weapons, but, rather, the freedom to buy, sell, own, use, enjoy and profit from the land we live on.
3. Follow through — without flinching, without shirking, without pissing and moaning, without fear or doubt or even one second of regret. You had been wrong, but now you know what is right. Your commitment to following through is your commitment to not falling back.
The National Association of Realtors has been dreadfully evil — not in my estimation but in its own. But every day is a new beginning. Every day is another chance at grace. Grasp that grace, and I’ll be the friend you never hoped to wish for. Push it away, and I will continue to do everything I can think of to destroy your criminal conspiracy.

This gives me hope, on many levels, this gives me hope. Thanks for writing this over and over, Greg. Makes me proud to call BHB a home.

Thanks Greg! I often find myself in land use meetings at the local level trying to explain property rights and their importance to a room full of rotarian socialists passing themselves off as freedom loving conservatives. While I expect that will be the case for some time, I appreciate your clear voice!

That pretty much says it all, but it’s hard to change the minds of folks who view good as evil and evil as good.
Keep fighting the good fight, Greg. People are listening.

I don’t know Greg, the web address you posted does not resolve to anything.
I suspect that some of the same people may be responsible for this, that are also trying to lend credibility to the junk they are saying about the health care bill, just by giving a page number along with their baseless claim.
Why can’t people just tell the truth and stop trying to selfishly get what they want through lies and deceit??

I created the blog to share what’s going on in the RE.net with other staff members here at NAR. NAR has been using an email group to do the same thing since long before I came to the association.
Using WordPress allows those contributing articles to this internal blog to add tags like HVCC or Tax Credit. Separate RSS feeds for the entire blog, or individual tags are then generated. That way, the staff members involved in each of these issues have an opportunity to see what members are saying about the issues at had.
The blog is internal, but hardly secret. I tweeted about it earlier this week. It’s just a simple P2 theme. There’s no commentary about the posts, just links and snip-its.
Imagine that. We are listening to public comments made on blogs. Pros and cons. Greg, I can turn the trackbacks off if it helps you sleep better at night.

Greg,
The more people I connect with on blogs around the country the more I realize we are not alone in lines of thinking that we share.
Sadly the organization that is supposed to truly represent us has fallen to the way side.
It’s time for a change in America and we need like minded individuals like yourself to start running for public office. We need to make changes with our votes and our voices!
Great Post!
