Apple’s not exactly a panacea, either. They charge a premium for their products (because – surprise – they’re the only company that makes them) and then they break existing applications whenever they release a new operating system. It happened with System 7, System 8, System 9, OS/X, etc.
And don’t even get me started on the problems I had with my iPod – poor battery life, so-so sound, skipping after just 20 minutes of jogging…
Consumer electronics seriously need to get better in quality and ease of use if these companies (Apple, MS, Sony) are serious about transforming digital entertainment.
I am seriously excited about being able to download movies and TV shows on the Xbox360, though – that is just too cool. And when they add the new DVR functionality, that’s one less device I’ll need on the shelf over the TV.

I use both regularly. And seriously, Vista simply kicks ass. Been using it since RC1, and it rocks.
Being blindly religious about technology only hurts you in the long run.

Being a legacy kind of guy, I still love my Sony minidiscs. The sound is incredible and the silly things are bullet proof. In LP4 mode, I get 320 minutes of music or Russell Shaw on one rewriteable disc. I’ll never figure out how Sony lost to Ipod on this. Talk about disfunctional marketing! I’ve been stocking up on eBay. I doubt anyone would buy a used iPod…
