Oz is calling. My aversion to conferences has been pushed aside, and in the middle of the night I’ll be boarding a plane for Blog World in Vegas– possible only with the help of Dramamine and Pepto Bismol. It means that Friday morning I will land in Las Vegas loopy and stoopid, with drool stains on my shirt, but I was assured that I’d fit in just fine.
Eric Blackwell says that relationships are at the heart of these things, so I’m embracing my inner warm and fuzzy person and plan on saying Howdy to quite a few RE.net peeps that I’ve never met. Well worth the trip. At Blog World there will be plenty of self-proclaimed gurus with which I can mix and mingle. Me, being the eternal optimistic cynic, am wary of anyone who willingly takes on the title of Social Media Guru, but I understand that it’s Blog World, so I’m bound to run into a few.
BloodhoundBlog is the house: Dan Green is speaking, Brad Coy is speaking, Bawld Guy is marking territory on a dance floor somewhere. There is a gross of squirt guns winging their way to a Vegas pool party and, as if that wasn’t enough, someone has promised to wear a kilt and pull a mooning, a la Braveheart. See what you miss if you aren’t Twittering?
That’s fun! But still. The not so warm and fuzzy part of my brain keeps reminding me that I paid good money for this and I’m taking time away from income producing work. Friday is REBlogWorld, and Saturday and Sunday is the BlogWorld conference. I’m going to go and soak up the atmosphere, the information, the guruliciousness and hopefully learn a couple hundred dollars worth of bloggy goodness.
How do I do that? I’m suspending my disbelief, but I’m clueless. If you were going to BlogWorld, what would be the one don’t miss ticket for you? What would you want to see and why? I’m going, I want to learn, but I’ve not yet made any plans to hear anything specific. I was thinking of going where the wind takes me, but there’s bound to be a lot of hot air at BlogWorld- ba dum ching. Seriously, I’m looking for your suggestions and recommendations. I want to be able to share something with BloodhoundBlog- what do you want to know? What should I plan on doing at Blog World to keep me away from the nickel slots?
And while we are at it- any good eats?

Teri,
Good for you! I don’t doubt that you already know most everything that most of the presenters will be discussing. So instead of going with the expectation of learning something in the “teacher-student” sense, you should maybe adopt the expectation of sharing ideas on a “peer-to-peer” level. So, seek out the folks with whom you’d most like to share ideas. And have fun!

I’m always interested in Black Pearls.
Chipotle, 3475 Las Vegas Blvd, north of Harrah’s, south of the Venetian. I like the tacos. A burrito is too much food for one person. The guacamole is very good. The red sauce is muy caliente. If you mix the red with the corn, you get heat and sweet, an interesting taste combination. Chipotle is the best reasonably-priced Mexican food in Phoenix. In Las Vegas, it’s the best, period.
BlogWorld is at the LVCA, a sane location. I think you told me you’re staying at the Palms, an insane location. You can get a shuttle at the Rio that will take you to Harrah’s for free, with the Monorail just about where the shuttle drops off.

This is my first visit to Vegas and I’m staying close to the convention center. I’m going there for my company Yoono to talk with bloggers about us but I’m also hoping to learn more about engaging our 1.5 million+ user community via the blog.

I want to know what the real odds are for hitting 22 red after 4 scotches on the rocks.

… post #rebw in a nutshell. No nickel slots, no gambling in fact. There was a guy in a kilt, he was everywhere. The content at REBlogWorld was great, although I did not even get to see half of it. The content for the following 2 days at BlogWorld was extremely useful, I had only wished I had organized my sleeping schedule better. Meeting bloggers and other new media types was tops. Including Mr. Adam Jackson, congrats on the new job sir.
So happy to see you and a couple of the other Bloodhounds there Teri.
