Still needed is regulation of yield-spread premiums — cash rebates paid to third-party brokers as a kind of reward for funneling unsuspecting consumers into higher-rate loans
-Rich Cordray, Ohio Candidate For Attorney General, Demonstrating for the record his utter lack of understanding of how real estate financing works.
That is in my inbox. Enough to make any broker mad. And, while I’ve responded to the industry requisite “spam your congressman,” and occasional political action calls, I have never been as ready to fight as after I was reading that. Cordray enjoys a congenial reputation, but I can’t stand willful ignorance.
Rich Cordray is the anointed Democrat who is in line to succeed disgraced (also Democratic) Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann (the link is precious). There is a Republican running, but he’s even referred to himself as the sacrificial lamb of the Republican party.
This email was sent from my friend Jeremiah. One of his small “l” libertarian buddies, Robert Owens got drafted by the Ohio Liberty Movement. Would I pitch in to stop the madness? Would I give my time energy and effort to a longshot race? Hell yes.
I’ve regarded politics as an onastically futile pursuit, someone must do something. And I’ve got the time, the interest, and hopefully, the acumen. I’m responsible for creating a social media and blogging plan to raise enough money to compete. We want our electorate to be especially cognizant of the anti business positions of our candidates. Oh, and the candidate? His biggest issues are following the constitution, and having transparency in government.
So, I’ve got a few weeks (80 days, which is 11.4 weeks) to come up with a plan to get enough money to be viable, to get the funds to keep our professional campaign staff in the hunt, and to fight, fight, and fight some more. Can I successfully apply the lessons I’ve learned over the last 9 months to this fight? All eyes are on me as I’m the one that’s responsible for finding donors. And I will. I will take a page out of the Bawld Guy handbook and ruthlessly canvas the planet for donors. I am giddy to create a simple to execute plan that nobody else will do.
The thing that got me into this? What if we win? What if, at the end of the day, we pull an Appalachian State block the field goal? This would be way bigger than anything I else I could do. Getting a libertarian candidate in an office can push Leviathan back another generation and can show the secondhand collectivists that there are limits on how much of our power and money that we can steal.
My goal is 1.2 million. If I achieve that goal, then we are assured of our chances to push leviathan out of the business. Ohio matters, and I want you to all consider this as you turn in for the night. If we can win here, we can win in your state next.
I’d love both donations and suggestions. I am doing all that’s within my power to win, but I want to have ideas. How can those that love life and liberty get our message out?

Cordray! ugh. We write our BMV checks to him. “R Cordray, Ohio State Treasurer” or some such nonsense. That burns my butt every time. Can you imagine? It’s the same bull as the stickers on the gas pumps with the auditor’s name, only worse because I have to write it out with my own hand.
You are doing a good and admirable thing, Chris. Ohio does need this so desparately, unless, of course, Ohioians are happy with things as they are, which I can’t imagine being the case…

I find this post so funny, though sad at the same time. We go through the same things here in New Jersey, dare I say worse actually. I am a born and raised Democrat but I cannot stomach the ignorance, stupidity, and out right craziness of the New Jersey Democratic party. It is as if they are hell bent on bankrupting the state.

Chris –
Kudos to you for deciding to run for office. I’m assuming that you’re an attorney, with a track record for criminal prosecution and such, since you’re running for Attorney General?
Do you belong to any party organization in Ohio? Mounting an independent run, especially for a statewide office, is not likely to be all that fruitful.
