In Need of Migration Assistance – Please!

Hi All – I am in need of assistance with the migration of my blog – currently hosted on blogger to my own domain using WordPress.

I have referenced Tom Vanderwell’s post on July 2 asking for help/clarifications.  I’ve attempted to follow everyone’s previous advice and dagnabbit, it still don’t werk.

I currently have a domain setup and hosted on godaddy.  I have successfully installed WordPress on my new host.  I have tried the import function via WordPress to import my blog from Blogger.  When I grant access to Blogger, I get a blank webbrowser – it says done, but it ain’t.

Secondly, I’ve gone into Blogger and directed my blog to my custom domain www.itaintallbighairandcadillacs.com – again, ain’t nuthin’.

I know I’m missing something, but I can’t figure this out.

Any thoughts?  Thanks!

    I would host on hostgator and have tech support do it for you. their support is awesome. they will probably do it for free, but at most, will charge $35. I do not affiliate market for hostgator, i just like their service.

    Okay, question for everyone. Does wordpress.com work the same way for importing as wordpress.org does? If so, Thomas, I know how to import. If not, I can’t help, sorry.

    Import

    Does it give you the import options from there?

    That’s how wordpress.com works and it was very easy to do…..

    There is a plugin that imports from Blogger and maintains permalinks, I’ve been told it’s easy..

    When some of my posts pulled over to wordpress I had to log out first before it would show up, but I didn’t pull from Blogger. It may also be in drafts? I had that happen also.

    I like GoDaddy for lots of things. Hosting is not one of them.

    I would host at a local ISP who answers the phone.
    Expect to pay $20+/mo.

    What you get from the local ISP is that you always talk to LEvel 3 Tech Support and they really care about your business.

    I have 2 in Denver/Boulder that I really like and have used for 10+ years. I always try to host my clients with one of these local providers.
    Service and knowledge are everything.

    I use Dreamhost. I lucked into their service but they have One-Click install and upgrades for WordPress. I don’t know if it will make migration easier but I love it for making the upgrade experience simple.

    Also all of my domains are at GoDaddy and then I reset the servers for Dreamhost. Easier than it sounds and I know very little about this stuff.

    Hi Thomas,

    There should be installation instructions on the website where you down loaded it, but go in to the FTP and put it in the wordpress plugin folder. (the unzipped files)

    Hang in there, this is the hard part. I’m so glad that I switched over to wordpress! I would still check out the drafts. Mine just one day showed up after logging out a few times. Kinda crazy. Eric was a huge help also. I wrote a post about all of it and we talked about it in the comments, you may want to read that? Mine was not on blogger though, totally not able to import on wp. Had to copy and paste.

    At long last, I got it to work! A big shout out to Eric – thanks again for your assistance.

    The key to the migration is to set up a blog at http://www.wordpress.com, import from blogger. After import, create an export in .xml format. Import the .xml format into WordPress at your domain – voila! I now need to rebuild tag and categories – but heck, Big Hair’s got a new home!
