We stopped running the Technorati widget a while ago. They went through some kind of hosting nightmare, and they were dragging us down on page loads as we waited for their software to time out. But they did some kind of recalculation this week, and suddenly I’m loving them a whole lot better.
We might not have Google right now — not that that matters — but we’re within striking distance of being one of the top 5,000 weblogs in the Technorati universe. How cool is that?

Greg,
Is there anything in particular that you attribute your rise in technorati?

In general, or in the instant matter.
We’ve always been very strong in Technorati links (and other ways of measuring links, too), because we cover a lot of interesting, challenging, novel ideas.
In the instant matter, I’m guessing that Technorati rewrote its parser and discovered a lot of links emanating from weblogging platforms it might not have recognized in the past.
From their own weblog:
Everybody got a boost. We got around a hundred — we’re at 604 as I write this. In principle, Technorati rank is the best long-term measure of a weblog’s impact, because Technorati links expires after 180 days. If you’re not continuing to deliver the goods, your glorious past will eventually fade away to nothing. I’m eager to see Technorati get its act together.
And with that, I’ll turn the widget back on. Good behavior should be rewarded.

Greg – Thanks for the info. I was rather wondering what was up. I googled #1 this morning for Lake Powell View Properties as a technorati link. Odd. I was prowling around there earlier but had not run across their weblog. Learn as you go, I guess!
