Dr. Adam Hansen, chief resident of general surgery at the Phoenix hospital, admitted to Mayo administrators he snapped the photo during a Dec. 11 gallbladder surgery on patient Sean Dubowik, whose penis bears the tattooed slogan, “Hot Rod.”
After Hansen showed the photo to other members of the surgical staff, one phoned a Republic reporter on Monday and left an anonymous message about the incident.
Hansen has been placed on administrative leave and is neither seeing nor treating patients.
…..
Dubowik runs a Phoenix topless bar, Centerfolds Cabaret, and said he’d gotten the tattoo on a $1,000 bet.
“It was the most horrible thing I ever went though in my life,” Dubowik said. He said he chose Mayo Clinic for treatment because his mother had five surgeries there.
“They were supposedly the best of the best. I have no complaints about the medical care I was given,” he said.
“But now I feel violated, betrayed and disgusted. I’ve never been in a hospital and (my) first experience is the worst thing ever.”
…..
Dubowik, who had not yet spoken to an attorney Tuesday, said he planned to contact one.
“The longer I sit here the angrier I get,” he said.
PeterT says:
I had a feeling that the story would end with a call to a lawyer. The Doctor was unprofessional, but the idea that a strip club owner’s life is ruined because someone snapped a picture of his member is a little hard to take.

Let me just say that I have a Mayo contact.
The physician’s appointment at Mayo Clinic has ended.
The second breach by a different person was the reporting of the incident along with the actual patient’s name to the media. The identity of the person who disclosed the patient’s name is not yet known. RAT!
I’m wondering though, was this tattoo easily seen or did the doctor need to pull, unfold or stretch anything?
A tittie club owner feeling violated, betrayed and disgusted. Shut up and dance, bitch!

I think he is just sitting around with his lawyer thinking how much free money he can get. Seriously, what are his damages? Do you think that women that would have dated him before won’t now? If he is married, is it going to destroy his family? Will it devalue his business?
The lawyer that takes this should be disbarred.

Cathleen Collins says:
Both the surgeon and the person who disclosed the patient’s name to the press are in violation of HIPAA, a federal law with penalties including imprisonment.
Really? Ever wonder, when you go to the doctor’s, why they’re all over you to sign their HIPAA forms? What’s the big deal? When I was on the committee of a major hospital system to implement HIPAA, I groused about the law. I’m really not an advocate of new laws. But it isn’t the lawyer who should be disbarred. He’s not doing anything unethical. The breach of ethics was the surgeon’s.

It is now being reported the tatoo said –
” hot times can be had by all of those that read the complete text written on this short little rod”
Font size unknown.
Perhaps it was situated where all the text could not be read in the operating room.
