I have no idea what any of these songs have to do with BHB but I just had to hear Lyle Lovett’s cover of Flying Shoes. Perfect. He catches every little nuance in the song and it is actually better than Townes’ version. I just loved the photos of Townes, I had never seen most of them as I became a fan after he was already gone. I consider Townes Van Zandt to be in the top twenty songwriters to have lived in the past 50 years. He had very few peers in that department.
Of all the songs he ever wrote (and I have most all of them) this one song is the one I’ve played the most. Thank you for unearthing and sharing such treasures. I used to just drive for hours with the top down and play Flying Shoes over and over and over. Now, I blog.
