Eric W. Gage says:
This also marked the beginning of the end today for social security being there for my generation! Prepare Gen X and Y your own retirement…social security will not be there for us! Oh, this isn’t a political statement, just an opinion that I strongly believe in, and why I invest in real estate so I can live off that in retirement — that’s my social security plan.

Let the games begin. I think they should roll the retirement age back another 10 years.
Why should my generation have to pay for something we will never see? I wish I could just opt out of the whole program.

You and me both. I read recently, though I can’t remember where, the average annual return on SS money is an impressive 2%. Chris, you and I could train a sixth grader to do far better than that. Geez
At least privatize it. Regular folks could do worse, but they’d have to be drunk. π

Wayne Long says:
Preparing for your own retirement is smart no matter what happens. That said – they need to increase the age for SS. Most are too healthy to retire at 65 now. When SS was started 65 truly was old age. They have increased it a little but not as much as the average lifespan in America has increased. Instead of complaining we need to look for realistic answers IMO.

Wayne — Solid point. When FDR created SS, there was a reason he chose 65 as the magic age for retirement. Life expectancy then was 64. π Talk about a con.

Rancho Santa Fe says:
This demographic is our number one target market. Not all retirees are living on SS.
