Just in case you missed this. And I got it on a Google alert.
Dead tree media is ummm…dying more everyday.
Note to newspapers…those presses are livery stables and we all drive cars. π And have for a LONG time.

#Alex-yessir. Congrats on 2 years BTW. What people do not know is about how hard you have worked and the effort you have put in. Like most successful people.

One thing, though: As for “long live Wikipedia,” note that if you cite Wikipedia as an authoritative source, you’ll be laughed at. Never true for Britannica.
Wikipedia is great for directing you to sources (“presearch” as they say), but not so great for _using_ as one.

Agreed. But I am only citing them as the source of Encyclopedia Britannica’s print demise, and my source for that is ummm…Britannica. π

You know Britannica will be still published online. For $70 per year you can get the digital version. I think if they lower the price a bit they may manage to actually stay in business.

I bet the print versions will be valuable if you can find a complete set. Probably make for nice decorating touch in an office/study area. I remember getting a full set every couple of years as a youngster when I was in elementary/middle school.

Shutting down the print version of Britannica would have several implications which would not be evident from viewing the issue as a mere dual between Wikipedia and Britannica. I have articulated some of my ideas in my blog. http://sauravpeace.wordpress.com/2012/03/16/encyclopedia-britannica-stops-printing-what-does-it-say-or-not-say/

Had no idea. I can’t remember the last time I opened one…maybe highschool? Such sad news because nothing really replaces the smell and feel of a bok.
