This is the first half of the video from the Southwest Real Estate Blogging Conference. Jay Thompson is featured here, making his presentation on the marketing power of real estate weblogging. The light in the room was not our friend, so Jay spends much of the film in silhouette.
Doug Quance says:
I’m grateful you were able to capture this, Greg.
Looking forward to part two!

You are much too kind. We rendered a version at 720×480, but it was 1.8GB. Server space is not a problem, but it would have been a long, risky file transfer.

Rendering now. I want way more processing power for that job, plus I think I want to figure out how to serve video from here. If I could render at even one minute per minute, I’d be happy, but everything still stinks if I’m ten minutes per minute to transfer. Every Mac has an Apache web server built in, so all I have to do is sneak my streaming past Cox Cable…

Although you might sneak it past Cox… your upload speed won’t give you the bandwidth to successfully pull it off.
Didja check out the DivX I wrote about…

Thanks, very informative. This makes up a little for not being able to make it. Next time I plan to be there.

I’ve looked into it more than once. You’ve outlined the tradeoffs very well.

The better to hide that big blob of flab that hangs over my belt my friend!

Charles Richey says:
Divx is a great video compressor. There are several codecs like it available, like Xvid and a few others. The loss is minimal and the compression is huge. I don’t have Quicktime installed (too system invasive for me). You might want to go with flash embedding a divx’d file instead. You’ll get embedded video in almost 100 % compatible player (regardless of pc platform) and it will be a linkable file. Just a thought. π

Jay,
That was about the best presentation about the technical aspects and benefits of blogging I’ve seen. Props to PREG
