The video is not just visually bereft, it’s also riven with misspellings. But the song is great fun, most appropriate for a Friday evening.
Here is a Pandora radio station built from the Reckless Kelly style of alt.country — rock ‘n’ roll instrumentation with rich saw-tooth voices lamenting intricately-detailed tragedies. This is what country music can and should be, when it’s not trying to sell beer and tampons. This is good art — pure, simple, brutal.

I’ll throw one of my faves into the mix: Mainstream and traditional, but there is no mistaking the pure joy of excellent musicians doing the thing they love. Chieftains and Earl Scruggs slamming out Sally Goodin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByYSkRGrMqw
Nashville was recently under water, and the Grand Ole Opry- a national treasure, a cathedral of sorts, sustained damage. There is a connection to an honored past in that hall that is palpable. It will survive, the circle will be unbroken.

Here’s a Bluegrass station, for balance. The root of the station is Old Crow Medicine Show, so you’ll get everything from Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley to some really radical Newgrass.

Kickass Austin (sort of) band! Check out “Crazy Eddie’s Last Hurrah” if you get a sec.

That whole Texas circuit is enthralling to me. When it comes to music, Texas is its own country.

Great song. The lyrics reminded me of a trip I took with three friends there, in 1989. We flew into Shannon, spent time in Galway, and I swore I made a lass fall in love with me in Dublin.
I’m pretty certain she was as sad as the lass in the song about my departure and remembered me for days after I left.

A bottle of Redbreast is worth having around for special occasions. It’s sweeter and smoother than Old Bushmills, very complicated on the tongue, but it’s also about twice the price.

@Greg – I worked as a bartender at an alt-country bar in college. Cross Canadian Ragweed used to play for $5/head (Reckless played there a few times, as well.) If you dig Reckless & the alt-country scene, check out http://www.travislinvillemusic.com/(I swear he’s the next iteration of Willie Nelson) and http://www.brandonjenkins.com.

What a coincidence. I just saw Reckless Kelly at the Rythym Room on Indian School Rd a couple of weeks ago. It’s the 4th time I’ve seen them live. I love those guys and it’s great to see them getting more notoriety. One of my very favorites of theirs is Wicked, Twisted Road – check it on youtube.
Eric, I’ve seen CCR a couple of times, too. Great band, and you always get your money’s worth at one of their shows. Had a couple of beers with them on their bus, as a buddy of mine from Flagstaff has followed them for years.
