Jay Seville of JustNewListings.com in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. sent along this photo of the customs signs he is building for his team.
Lo-tech don’t mean no-tech: Sign calls sell homes. If you’re doing custom signs, let me know. I’m delighted to show off the hard work of hard-working dogs.

Interesting Concept! not sure if I like it or not, pictures are deceiving and sometimes the homes show better than in pictures. But, something to think about.

I love the small italic print under the pictures with three bold words (visible even in this small picture) – EXCELLENT – OUTSTANDING and Woodson High School district.
Passersby must slow down or stop to read the print…very houndish

Nice. Care to share the details? Sign size? What’s the sign made of? Who printed it? Who did the layout? etc, etc.

Interesting concept. I’m hesitating to say I like it. Driving by it at 25-35 mph you’ll miss everything, which is why I stick with name, logo, telephone #. Your thoughts? Does the sign actually get people to pull the car over to view photos and read the text?

I think they are a good idea in neighborhoods where they are driving slowly looking at houses. If they are speeding down the road it is a little tough to see companies logo and information.

@Teri,
I’ve been ordering my custom signs from (I think) the same place as Greg
Signs By Tomorrow
9700 N. 91st Ave., Suite 102
Peoria, AZ 85345
602-564-7525
623-209-0229 fax
http://www.signsbytomorrow.com/glendale/
Folks on the east coast may want to find a sign company closer to home.
I order Double-Sided Inkjet Aluminum .040 thick, and 24 inches by 24 inches (I think Greg likes them larger, but this size works OK for me.)
That said, I have learned that a custom sign is not appropriate in every location.
In the “edgy” neighborhoods, any sign attracts graffiti. No use spending $100 bucks on something that will be covered in spray paint within a week.
On a really high traffic street, people may notice the sign, and may want to slow down to see what it is …. but if there is no parking space on the street for them to pull over, it is kind of a lost cause. 🙂

It is definitely an interesting concept. I will look into it further (as pricing/delivery goes), being in a place where we have year-round foot traffic to open houses, these signs could definitely be an attention grabber. Thanks for posting.

I do especially love custom signs in neighborhoods with a lot of walking traffic: Fitness walkers, dog walkers, parents pushing baby strollers.
For everyone who mentioned “looking into” the idea further, here are three very informative posts from the BHB archives:

An interesting NAR statistic that has been very consistant for the past few years: nearly 90% of all home buyers start their search on-line but near 2 out of 3 once they find a house they like will drive by that house.
My feelings are that placing a billboard that provides more will generate more excitement and help to have the house stand out from all the others.
My suggestion would be to do up an individual listing web site for the house and get the homes URL on the sign as well as giving the sign viewer the ability to text for more information, text capture is great for lead generation.
I do this for FSBO sellers and a few agents, custom signs, listing web sites, text capture, and it works well to generate interest and leads.

That is very cool. Having a sign like this will make you look different than every other listing agent in the neighborhood. I really like this idea!
