I occasionally blog on UVEXsports.com.
Most of my posts were links to stories about Lindsey Vonn, who uses UVEX stuff. We hope famously.
The IOC called and told UVEX to stop using any mention of Mrs Vonn on UVEXsports.com and that included my posts.
Then she won the gold, I congratulated her in thinly disguised verse, SlashDot picked it up and now other blogs are linking to it.
This is known as the Streisand Effect, and it is one of the coolest things about these here Interwebs. If you love the players but hate the corporate game the Olympics have become, please check it out, leave a comment and send a message to the IOC.

When Atlanta had the Olympics in 1996 a restaurant called the Olympic Flame that had been in existence for a loooooong time had to change their name. I don’t know where these guys get their power, but the endless ass kissing of the cities trying to land the Olympics probably has a lot to do with it.

Hey John, whats up with that?? Do the Olympics own the rights to every athletes name that is competing? And Dan it’s funny you say that, my friends and I used to go to a small bar near Cabbage town that also was forced into a name change by the Atlanta Olympic Commitee. Very strange.

I hope that cities everywhere start facing the financial realities of holding an Olympics. They only leave a sad trail of huge indebtedness in their wake. Losing the Olympics for Chicago by not bringing enough bribe money, is arguably Obama’s best fiscal move yet.
Judging by the number of GE commercials in the televised NBC broadcasts, the ads at this Olympics are not sold out, so parent GE had to buy up ads. Of course, since GE Capital is a stimulus recipient, we know who is paying the tab for that one. ‘Vonncouver’, BC will be paying for this Olympics for years.
I would love to see the USOC stand up to these criminals and give our athletes their names back. Without Team USA, there is no fat TV contract.

I watched last evening as the Canadian goaltender (please correct me if I’m wrong) had Reebok on his mask. Seeing as the NHL/Olympic contract only goes through 2010, maybe we will truly have amateurs (there is no such thing if you’ve been paid $1) in future Olympics.

Some of the music conferences in Austin do the same thing. They go after any mention at all of the conference by local business. Going after people that mention the name seems quite a bit overboard. The uvexsports link in the post seems down.
