Sometimes you just get lucky. We were on a big piece of net real estate before, but it feels like we’ve moved from a studio apartment to a 20,000 square foot mansion. I have yet to find a glitch, and we lost a one comment, total, left on the old server last night after we had swapped to the new one. The DNS propagation is still going on, but the old server is forwarding to the new one, so any remaining DNS miscues should be invisible to users. We’ll see how WordPress does, going forward, but so far I have nothing to kvetch about.
The biggest spike I’ve seen so far was 22%. We hadn’t been that low for weeks on the old server. I ran dexterminator this morning. (I gave it away at Unchained last May, but I expect I’m the only person who uses it.) Faster than a debutante’s sneeze. I was doing 30 domains at a time and I couldn’t get the server to time out, and meanwhile the load never went over 10%. I rate this a good move!
Used to click on Bloodhound, get up, walk to kitchen for a libation, pet the dogs, hug my honey, and mosey back to watch the site just appear on my screen.
You’ve ruined all of that. I may never see my dogs or wife again. 🙂

Booger. I can write a little PHP just for you, if you want your old life back…

If you’re seeing this comment, you’re connecting to the new server. (A painless transition, so far.)

Since this is something I must do, too, sooner or later, I’d appreciate whatever details you’d care to share…

Totally painless, and I think we’re through all the potential rough patches. Compared to what we went through last summer, this was a breeze.
I can’t tell how the system feels yet, but its raw stats are very impressive, all green lights.

Is there an ancient Greek analogy to this server swap….?
Sorry, it’s been a long couple of days (like you), and I’m putting a smile on my face early today because this was an “easy” transition for you.

Yes. You must of heard cries coming from the West last week. Thank you kindly for the switch 🙂
